Job Summary
The Clinical Dietitian II is responsible and accountable for the provision of competent, safe and ethical clinical nutrition services within the Eastern Zones of NL Health Services. This includes providing food and nutrition expertise in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical care to patients/clients/residents with diverse nutritional needs. Clinical dietitian services are provided in various healthcare settings, including acute, community and long-term care and with pediatric, adult, and older adult populations. The dietitians' practice will include standard, advanced and specialized nutrition care including the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, provision of medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education and coordination of nutrition care.

The dietitian plays an integral role as part of the interdisciplinary care team, providing education to team members on the critical role of nutrition in improving patient, client, and resident outcomes. They actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and rounds as needed. The role requires strong oral and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in using electronic tools such as CBORD and Meditech to effectively communicate with food service personnel and the interdisciplinary team. The dietitian is expected to engage in practice, program development, and quality improvement initiatives. They must demonstrate and maintain competency in delivering standard, advanced, and specialized nutrition care. Additionally, in support of the NL Health Services Dietetic Internship Program, the dietitian serves as a preceptor to dietetic interns and contributes their nutrition expertise to the program's delivery.

The dietitian reports to the manager in the area to which they are assigned and maintains accountability to the Provincial Professional Practice Consultant for Dietitians for integrity and professional practice.

Occasionally lifts objects up to 15 lbs. (e.g. oral nutrition supplements, enteral nutrition formula).
Regularly requires alertness to the health and safety of others (e.g. assessing when patients/clients/residents are at risk of becoming medically unstable)
Advice provided to patients/clients/residents impacts their health and safety (e.g. re-occurrence of nutrition issue, malnutrition, blood glucose levels, wound healing, swallowing issues).
Regularly there are time pressures and deadlines and often there is lack of control over work pace (e.g. meeting deadlines for parenteral nutrition orders, discharge planning).
Regularly requires a high level of attentiveness for exact results and precision to determine nutrition diagnosis and interventions (e.g. calculations required for patients with renal disease, requiring enteral or parental nutrition, refeeding syndrome recommendations).
Use of virtual technology for individual and group sessions.

Job Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent from an accredited university program and successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship program is required.
Current registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Dietitians (NLCD) is required.
Prior experience as a Clinical Dietitian is an asset.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
