Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, public administration, social science, political science, government studies, information systems, or related fields.
  • Techniques and methods of using computers and software applications including word processing, data bases, spreadsheets, and presentation packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, i2 analyst notebook, ACIIS, RMS, PIP, CPIC).
  • Experience with multiple police records management tools relevant to retrieve information during research, and prepare presentations, analysis reports, and supporting graphs or charts for FPF or external clients.

The primary responsibility of the Crime Analyst is to collect, evaluate, analyze, disseminate and report crime data to discover patterns, trends and changes in criminal activity. The successful candidate will provide analytical support to all divisions of the Fredericton Police Force (FPF). They will be required to conduct regular operational briefings as well as briefings for special events/activities. They will also work closely with other agencies to ensure effective sharing of information. This position is a civilian member of the Force and reports directly to Staff Sergeant of Criminal Investigations.

What You'll Do:

  • Collect, evaluate, analyze, disseminate and report crime data for the Force.
  • Discover patterns, trends and changes in criminal activity within the community.
  • Provides reports, charts, timelines, queries, information collations, officer safety bulletins, and other analysis for all departments within the Fredericton Police Force.
  • Conduct regular operational briefings and special/event or activity briefings.
  • Work closely with external agencies to gather as much data as possible and ensure effective sharing of information.

What You Bring:

  • Strong understanding of statistics and reporting. University level statistics courses preferred.
  • Understanding of analytical techniques including research methods, crime theory and process evaluation. Real world experience with complex problem analysis or intelligence analysis is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization. Experience working with/presenting to sworn staff at all levels, or upper level executives in other fields, preferred.
  • Subject matter knowledge in crime analysis, statistical data, data management, data documentation, relational databases, and/or law enforcement records management systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including preparation of clear, concise and thorough reports.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, contributing to key work activities and helping to foster a cooperative and supportive team environment.
  • Ability to use technology in a dynamic and progressive workforce.
  • Firm understanding of relational databases including querying, editing and manipulating data across multiple tables.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and balance priorities while meeting deadlines.
