The Shift Supervisor - Fleet Operations oversees the daily operations of the Emergency Roadside Service (ERS) fleet team members during their shift. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for managing drivers, addressing issues that arise in the field, and ensuring that all fleet activities align with company standards for safety, efficiency, and Member experience. The Shift Supervisor also handles various administrative tasks to support the smooth operation of the fleet, including scheduling, asset inventory, fuel card, invoice administration, and timecard management. The Shift Supervisor plays a crucial role in coordinating fleet operations to ensure that services are delivered effectively and that any operational challenges are swiftly addressed.

Working Conditions:

  • The role requires active supervision in both office and field environments.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of drivers during the assigned shift, ensuring that all operations are carried out efficiently and safely.
  • Coordinate driver schedules and dispatch assignments based on real-time needs and workload.
  • Monitor fleet operations in the field, providing support and guidance to drivers as needed, including addressing any issues that arise during service calls.
  • Ensure that all drivers adhere to company policies, safety protocols, and legal requirements while on duty.
  • Report incidents and emergencies in the field, such as vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and Member complaints, to Fleet Managers for proper reporting and documentation.
  • Prepare regular reporting on metrics and present findings to the Fleet Managers or other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of shift activities, including driver performance, incidents, and any operational challenges encountered.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with drivers to monitor their progress, address any concerns, and provide coaching to improve performance.
  • Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new drivers to ensure they are fully prepared for their roles.
  • Conduct regular coaching for drivers, providing feedback and identifying opportunities for development with Fleet Managers.
  • Collaborate with the Fleet Managers to implement improvements in fleet operations, driver efficiency, and overall service delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service quality.
  • Communicate any operational issues or concerns to the Fleet Manager, along with recommended solutions.
  • Ensure that all fleet vehicles are equipped with necessary tools and supplies for the shift.
  • Manage the shift handover process to ensure continuity of operations between shifts.
  • Oversee asset inventory, ensuring all battery, equipment and tools are accounted for and in good condition.
  • Process fuel card invoices, monitor expenditures, and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Provide support with driver timecards, ensuring accurate recording of work hours and coordinating with Fleet Managers & Payroll for processing.
  • Process invoices related to fleet operations, ensuring timely payment and accurate record-keeping.
  • Assist with month-end reporting and administrative tasks to support the Fleet Managers.
  • Assist with technology and data management systems, such as telematics, GPS tracking, and fleet management software.
  • Serve as a backup driver as required during peak periods or in emergencies.
  • Provide on-call support after hours for any fleet-related emergencies or critical issues.
  • Perform other duties as required to support fleet operations.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a team lead or supervisory role. Alternatively, significant experience in CAA Fleet operations is considered a strong asset.
  • Valid Class 5 licence; Air Brake Endorsement is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on operational efficiency and driver support.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, particularly in dynamic, field-based environments.
  • Proficiency in using fleet management, dispatch software, and administrative tools.
  • Strong computer skills, excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide on-call coverage after hours and on weekends, with responsibilities rotating among supervisors.
