FFAW-Unifor is seeking a Membership Representative to service members in the Industrial/Retail/Offshore (IRO) sector. Reporting to IRO Director, the Membership Representative is responsible for the servicing of Collective Agreements, collective bargaining and negotiations, and building union solidarity amongst FFAW-Unifor members. This position will focus on servicing the West & Southwest coasts, Northern Peninsula, and parts of Labrador.
Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between union and employers regarding all aspects of union/employer relations
- Analyze, interpret and clarify aspects of collective agreements on behalf of FFAW-Unifor membership
- Act as a lead negotiator between FFAW-Unifor membership and employers
- Identify new membership opportunities by engaging workers, building support for unionization efforts, and promoting workers' rights within a workplace
- Work directly with employees to educate, inform, and organize them around collective bargaining and workplace improvements. This includes outreach, communication, strategic planning, and collaboration with union members and leadership
- Interpret collective agreements, lead grievance processes, and represent members at arbitration proceedings
- Investigate, represent and facilitate the resolution of workplace disputes and grievances on behalf of the membership
- Liaison with IRO team to resolve disagreements, negotiate resolutions and prepare for arbitrations proceedings
- Gather, analyze and interpret research materials relative to the negotiation of collective agreements
- Exercise strong judgement and represent FFAW-Unifor in a professional and respectful manner
- This position will require travel throughout the province
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Experience in negotiations, collective bargaining and the servicing of collective agreements as well as facilitating membership/ratification meetings
- Experience interpreting collective agreements and familiarity with workplace policies and practices
- Significant experience in the labour movement and knowledge of trade unions
- Experience with arbitration procedure and workers' compensation appeals
- Knowledge of labour/employment legislation and policy impacting the workforce
- Ability to create, prepare, and organize highly sensitive information, while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
- Knowledge of Employment Insurance system
- Experience advocating for workers
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Valid NL drivers license
