Job Summary

The Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Program at NL Health Services, and the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland are seeking a pathologist with genitourinary subspecialty expertise who is suitable for a full-time faculty appointment at the appropriate academic rank. The successful candidate will join a group of molecular and diagnostic pathologists, hematopathologists, clinical scientists, clinical and medical microbiologists and clinical chemists providing pathology and laboratory services across the province. Salary and benefits for the clinical appointment will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for Salaried Physicians in NL and commensurate with the level of training and experience.

Through affiliation agreement with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair of Laboratory Medicine, the successful candidate may be awarded a part-time or full-time faculty appointment in the Discipline of Laboratory Medicine through a separate process. Major academic responsibilities for faculty typically includes undergraduate and residency education within the Discipline of Laboratory Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine. Priorities for this position include resident support, resident assessment, extensions of training, and remediation. The candidate will be expected to hold or work towards acquiring a certificate, diploma, or graduate degree in medical education. Faculty with full time appointments are expected to develop their major academic pillar in Education, and contribute substantially to the other pillars Clinical Medicine, Discovery, and Leadership. For candidates who qualify for a full-time academic appointment, remuneration will allow for protected time for scholarly activity in Education, leadership, and research. Geographic full-time (GFT) appointments are generally offered for a three-year contract and are eligible for promotion, but not for tenure.

Our state-of-the-art laboratories currently process approximately 40,000 surgical pathology specimens per year. On call coverage and autopsies are shared equitably within the group. The Health Science Centre is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University and has a molecular and diagnostic pathology residency training program.

Required Qualifications

T o be considered, candidates must:

  • Hold a medical degree and have certification Anatomical Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) with training in the genitourinary subspecialty.
  • Eligible for licensure to practice by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
