Job Description:

TD Insurance Legal Department Paralegal Role

  • LicensingEnsure the TD Insurance companies' licenses are renewed and maintained for all provinces. Maintenance of licenses includes:
    • ensuring regulators are notified of changes with respect to authorized signatories, changes in designated representatives, etc.
    • reaching out to the business to obtain the information necessary to validate certain questions by the regulators
    • ensuring the E&O Insurance certificates are renewed annually and provide revised certificates to the regulators
  • Other FilingsEnsure the annual maintenance of entities with the Corporate Registries in each jurisdiction where registered.
  • Monthly Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Tracking Monitor updates to changes in applicable Laws, Rules and Regulations (LRRs) and Regulatory Initiatives.
  • Notifications to Regulators Monitor with the compliance function the company activities that may trigger a notification to regulators from the legal entities and send regulatory notifications as required.
  • Registration of Lobbying Activities Assist in the quarterly review of lobbying activities to confirm/determine whether registration is required for these activities with the regulators according to provincial and federal Lobbying legislation. Prepare and maintain charts which outline the lobbying thresholds and restrictions in each jurisdiction.
  • Assistance with Legal Searches/Research Conduct legal searches relating to various regulatory/licensing requirements and maintain the legal research/opinion data bank.
  • Errors & Omissions (E&O) Insurance Manage E&O insurance for agents and agencies, which requires tracking of regulatory changes and escalation to the Corporate Insurance team and ensuring required amendments are made to the policies.
  • Subscriptions to Legal Publications Oversee maintenance of department subscriptions to legal publications.
  • Working ToolsAs needed, prepare working tools which are useful documents to navigate our licensing structure and responsibilities (i.e., comparative charts of provincial legislation on various issues, list of current head offices for all entities, list of current authorized signatories, etc.)
  • Administrative TasksReview and process invoices, monitor mailbox for the purposes of re-directing incoming faxes to be handled by other lines of business, scanning/saving legal team documents in Team Connect, etc.
