Job Summary
The Sterile Supply Technician (SST) is responsible for performing a series of detailed technical duties related to decontamination, high level disinfection, sterilization, reassembly and function testing of flexible endoscopes, reusable medical devices, equipment and surgical instruments throughout various areas of the hospital. It includes performing quality testing to validate equipment function and documenting results, assembling and packing instruments and tray, and participating in the evaluation and trial of medical devices. This is completed in accordance with the principles of Infection Prevention and Control, safety standards, Eastern Health policies and Manufacturer's instructions for use. Performs other related tasks as required with regard to Medical Device Reprocessing within Eastern Health.

Constantly handles or moves medical supplies, equipment, instrument containers, and wraps up to 11 lbs; occasionally handles material up to 22 lbs and pushes and pulls carts using medium force up to 44 lbs.
Constantly stands and walks for an extended period of time and lift, push, and pull trays; regularly works in awkward/cramped positions.
Occasionally sits when working on the computer.
Constantly uses fine finger or precision work on the computer and operates hand tools to manually clean instruments/equipment.
Constantly requires visual concentration and hand-eye coordination.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from High school or equivalent.
Successful completion of a recognized Sterile Supply Technician/Medical Device Reprocessing program form a recognized/approved college within the last five years is required (if the program was completed more than five years ago, one must be working in reprocessing within the last five).
Current Certification as a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (CMDRT) by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is an asset.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
