Demands, duties, qualifications
The primary purpose of this position is to perform general clerical duties involved in the operation of the Laboratory Department at the Labrador Health Center. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the Team Lead of Laboratory Services at LHC and report to the Laboratory Operations Manager.
Qualifications:
• Graduation from High School or equivalent;
• Successful completion of a one-year Office Administration program;
• Successful completion of an approved Medical Terminology course or willingness to obtain in a time frame to be determined by the employer;
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment;
• Knowledge of the Meditech and electronic medical record systems would be an asset;
• The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
• Regularly required to lift/move objects up to 10 lbs. and use a cart to transport objects within the building. Push/pull forces in the sedentary range (0-10lb).
• Occasionally required to bend/twist, stretch/reach, and/or complete low-level postures (kneeling/crouching/stooping)
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
• Daily control and filing of reports/records related to diagnostic laboratory testing;
• Assisting clients/staff when presenting to the laboratory seeking information or making an inquiry, as well as managing phone calls;
• Performing daily quality assurance activities for the laboratory;
• Organizing and distribution of reports, mail, and laboratory specimen packages;
• Portering of laboratory specimens to and from the laboratory;
• Maintain inventory for the blood collection and clerical areas;
• Other related duties as required.
