The Department of Health is seeking an individual to join the Talent Recruitment Division as the Director of Health Workforce Planning, reporting to the Executive Director. As a Director of Health Workforce Planning, you will:

  • Conduct analysis of current and future population health needs, workforce supply/demand, and trends/gaps for nursing, allied health professions, and physicians;
  • Develop and implement workforce planning strategies;
  • Identify barriers to recruitment and retention, making recommendations to reduce/eliminate barriers, ensuring strategies are aligned with the Provincial Health Plan, as well as other connected provincial plans that support the work mandated by the Division;
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including public education systems, the post-secondary education sector, Regional Health Authorities, and other provincial employers operating in the health care, long-term care, and education sectors;
  • Develop, implement, and monitor provincial programs, such as: Hard-to-Recruit Nurse Incentive, Nursing Innovation Fund, Practice Sharing & Shared Workload Programs, Supernumerary Funding Program; Operating Room Assist Program, etc.;
  • Make informed decisions, ensuring forecasting models/resource planning tools are used;
  • Support the promotion and implementation of Foreign Qualification Recognition (FQR) initiatives for health care professions;
  • Work with partners to identify issues and solutions related to medical education (e.g. changes to program delivery, teaching capacity/resources, space/infrastructure constraints, introduction of new residency spots, etc.);
  • Facilitate partnerships between health care organizations, schools, and post-secondary institutions, creating experiential learning opportunities/internships/mentorship programs;
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies on licensing requirements/professional development opportunities to ensure educational programs align with standards/accreditation criteria;
  • Participate in Atlantic and federal health workforce committees/working groups, such as Atlantic Advisory Committee on Health Human Resources and Committee on Health Workforce.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a health sciences field, Health Administration, Public Administration, Business, or Health Human Resources;
  • And a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.
  • OR a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field, Health Administration, Public Administration, Business, or Health Human Resources;
  • And a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Written and spoken competence in French and English. Please state your language capability on your application.

Salary: $108,030 to $121,680 per annum (Pay Band 8)
