Job Description:
Operating a complex financial institution in multiple jurisdictions exposes the Bank's businesses and operations to a broad range of financial and non-financial risks. Environmental and social issues, including climate change, expose the Bank to a set of risks (collectively, E&S risk) that are transverse, meaning they can drive financial and non-financial risks, including but not limited to credit, strategic, reputational, legal and regulatory compliance risks (major risk categories). The Bank's decisions are based on its appetite for risk, as determined by its Senior Management and Boards of Directors. TD's enterprise risk framework outlines how the Bank governs and manages risk, including E&S risk, and is supported by frameworks, policies, procedures and practices to identify, assess, measure, control, monitor and report on risks.
The ESG Risk Management program continues to mature with an established E&S Risk Framework, Enterprise E&S Risk Policy, development of climate risk identification tools, reporting and education and training. ESG RM owns the Bank's Climate Risk Inventory which is a foundational mapping of physical and transition-related risks across the Bank's major risk categories, and education and training of its purpose and application is ongoing with risk owners. The existing Climate Risk Inventory was established in 2021 and with changes to external and internal factors relating to the Bank's ability to identify, manage, mitigate and report climate risks, the Inventory needs a refresh. This effort will require an individual who is a confident self-starter, enjoys working on strategy and in the "white space" (ie where we are designing structure to achieve outcomes; then working to deliver outcomes vs using existing project plans, etc) and uses research and effective stakeholder engagement to drive insights and recommendations. The project will require independent research of internal and external sources, the development of project management tools (ie critical path), presentation decks and revising the Inventory itself. The individual will also present findings and recommendations to risk executives, and conduct an education session on the refreshed Inventory with first and second line colleagues across the enterprise. The scope of the project is enterprise-wide, and engagement with our US risk partners will also be needed, which will afford additional opportunities to understand the external landscape in the US, further driving the development of risk management knowledge and expertise.
