About the Role
The Payroll Clerk III performs specialized clerical and/or supervisory work in the computation, verification and maintaining of payrolls, leave and related records for employees within Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services- Labrador-Grenfell Zone. Work involves analyzing and processing cyclic payrolls in accordance with documents and directives received, policies and procedures and collective agreements; preparing remittances for deductions to various agencies; answering enquiries and providing advice on matters relating to pay; processing payroll memorandums involving a variety of personnel actions in accordance with established time schedules; maintaining leave and other records and performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Successful Completion of a two-year Business Administration program with a specialization in Accounting or a three-year Business Management program specializing in Accounting with payroll courses completed is required.
- Completion of or enrolment in the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) program through the Canadian Payroll Association would be a definite asset.
- Proof of a current business administration program is required. To be considered current, the program must have been completed within the last three years, unless it is being used on a regular basis in recent positions. This must be demonstrated on the application form.
- 2-3 years of supervisory experience in the verification and maintaining of payroll is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of collective agreement, pensions plans, federal government regulations.
- Demonstrated effective time management skills and the ability to meet strict timelines.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (specifically Excel and Word).

Duties
: (Included but not limited to):
- Work involves analyzing and processing cyclic payrolls in accordance with documents and directives received, policies and procedures and collective agreements.
- Co-ordinates the processing of all payroll information adhering to all deadlines, providing lead direction to timekeepers, providing advice and guidance, providing policy and guideline interpretation.
- Monitors the work of payroll staff in the efficient performance of payroll functions.
- preparing remittances for deductions to various agencies.
- Assist with the completion and distribution of T4s.
- Calculate and process WHSCC payments due to employees.
- Ensure timely submission of time sheets by departments.
- processing payroll memorandums involving a variety of personnel actions in accordance with established time schedules.
- answering enquiries and providing advice on matters relating to pay.
- Compile and reconcile payroll reports for both internal and external reporting purposes.
- Train new payroll staff on payroll system as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Demands:
