Job Summary
Reporting to the District Operations Manager, the Ambulance Operator will be responsible for skilled work in the operation of ambulances in transporting patients while exercising care and skill in driving. The successful incumbent will provide assistance to the paramedicine staff in patient care, such as proper lifting of patients and other related duties as required.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Temporary call in staff will be assigned to coverage areas that will include multiple bases within an hour travel distance that they would be required to work out of.

Regularly lifts and moves patients and equipment (between 25-50 lbs.) and involved in heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of stretchers (100 lbs.) and patients.
Constantly stands, bends, stretches, kneels or pushes and pulls; sometimes in small and cramped spaces.
Constantly requires visual concentration or alertness to drive ambulances, complete site and patient assessments and to administer medications. Regularly there are time pressures in the pre-hospital emergency setting.
Regularly there is lack of control over work pace occurs due to the unpredictable situations during a medical emergency, or unpredictable call volume.
Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Responder course (10-day course).
Current Registration as an EMR with NLPR.
Current certification number with the Office of the Provincial Medical Director (OPMD).
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador issued class 04 driver's license.
An acceptable Driver's Abstract from Motor Vehicle Registration.
BLS certification.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Successful candidate will be required to be within a 10 min radius of the facility when required for standby.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required for this position.
A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Pre-employment Physical Capabilities test and medical is required.
