Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Currency Services – Retail and Business Banking Operations team in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
This role is specifically responsible for supporting and executing on Currency Services related projects within Canada, providing process/technology support to the Centralized Currency Units, and acting as a product owner to the unit's Vault Management System (VMS) application.
Accountabilities
Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
1. Manage and support approved strategic business plans:
- Develop and design solutions aimed to reduce the cost to serve or improve client experiences through currency related process enhancements (internally & externally) and leverage outsourcing opportunities.
- Develop and coordinate all required project plans such as: timelines, milestones deliverables, resources, communications & etc. and working closely with key stakeholders/subject matter experts, including external vendors.
- Identify, evaluate and develop recommendations for potential strategic & tactical opportunities which will improve currency operations
2. Guide the development and implementation of approved projects and services:
- Maintain and build an expert knowledge of industry trends and emerging products/services covering all aspects of cash processing, armoured transportation and related services. Supporting internal bank partners as a subject matter expert.
- Support the drafting of business case requirements, terms of reference and/or funding requests, including all necessary documents and supporting material.
- Escalate any project concerns or negative impacts to clients and/or internal operations related to currency projects and current state.
- Identify and escalating to senior members within Currency Services existing or new processes/procedures requiring a new or amendment to contracted services with Scotiabank suppliers based on recommended project changes.
- Manage the development and implementation of projects, business or systems requirement documents as required, including RFPs, business cases and any associated supporting material and data.
- Support all contract renewals/RFPs for cash delivery and processing contracts and ABM FLM service contracts, including price/structure analysis and recommendations for executive management's adjudication and approval.
- Support any servicing changes/contract changeovers required, resulting from RFP awards, new business requirements and system changes/upgrades and ensure legal commitments and SLAs are fully respected.
3. Ensure ongoing support is provided to clients and business partners:
- Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders, internally and externally
- Ensure ongoing support for any new processes or changes is available at the outset, a full description of the support requirements provided and monitoring/supporting the project implementation through until stabilization.
- Develop implementation approaches to communicating and training as required, ensuring readiness for project delivery.
- Ensure clear and concise operating procedures are documented and in place, and when/where required, new or revised procedures are developed, documented, approved and published for all stakeholders and business partners.
- Provide expertise, direction and support to all clients/service partners, in accordance with legally contracted agreements, service level arrangements and strategies
- Evaluate, formulate and communicate policies and strategic objectives to clients and service partners and provide guidance or authorizations on issues concerning policy. Develop and direct the application of contingency requirements during any periods of BCP and potential or actual labour disruption at contracted third party suppliers.
- Support negotiations of all third-party monetary contracts for all servicing partners - ensuring the servicing and pricing models developed provide the best possible service arrangements at a reasonable price
4. Ensure all expenses are closely controlled:
- Track, report & communicate project deliverables and success within Currency Services
- Report project costs and budgets, ensuring that any issues/overruns are addressed and escalated with recommendations, as applicable, and contingencies
- Support business case drafting; requirements, terms of reference and or funding requests
- Manage and control expenses relating to any approved projects;
5. Provide ad-hoc support where applicable within the department
6. Bank Accountabilities:
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

- Currency Services is the business owner of VMS (Value Management System) application and supports the ABM Servicing model for over 2,400 units in Canada. The project manager may be required to review and document procedures related to the use and oversight of the Banks vault system.
- The Project Manager is the lead PM for small/medium projects driven by Currency Services and supports many internal stakeholders on projects related to cash operations and suppliers in concert with the Director/Sr Project Manager.
- Reviews internal operational controls covering Canadian currency operations
- Supports projects involving Regulatory bodies (e.g., Bank of Canada & Royal Canadian Mint)
- Supports projects involving vendors (Garda, Brinks, G&D, S&G).
Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)
- University or college degree in management, accounting, finance, or business administration or 5 years related work experience.
- Prior project management experience, 2+ years (strongly preferred)
- Prior experience in working with third-party vendors (strongly preferred)
- Prior experience in supporting technical applications (preferred)
- Skilled in relationship building and influencing
- 2-5 years of banking and/or cash operations experience
- Knowledge / experience in the armoured car or cash processing operations industry would be an asset, or a strong willingness and keenness to learn.
- Spanish and/or French language skills would be an asset
Working Conditions
- Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours may be required on a limited basis. Limited travel domestically may be required, with advanced notice. Current in-office requirement (Eglington Campus) is 2x per week, subject to change with notice.
