AWARE-NS is seeking a collaborative, and highly skilled, individual to fill the role of Occupational Health and Safety Advisor (OHS Advisor). This role is key to our mission, vision, strategy, and operational planning. While educating Nova Scotians about safety, your days will be varied and exciting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Executive Director, and responsible to the OHS Team Lead, the responsibilities of the OHS Advisor include, but are not limited to, the following:
- exhibits alignment with the organizational mission, vision, values, and purposes that support a healthy, collaborative, and psychologically safe work environment leading to effective and efficient performance; commits to the principles of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility
- responds to OHS related inquiries and requests; provides OHS expertise to sector staff, organizations, AWARE-NS team members, and the Board of Directors
- researches, designs, develops, implements, and advocates for AWARE-NS programs; delivers AWARE-NS programs virtually and in-person, applying adult education principles
- identifies opportunities to update programs, institute new programs and services, and explore new delivery models and partnerships
- carries out speaking engagements and event organizing support
- participates in internal and external committee work and team meetings
- collects required service and program evaluation data and contributes to trends analysis
- identifies and communicates relevant provincial initiatives and legislation
- follows AWARE-NS policies, procedures, processes, plans, and work instructions
- utilizes AWARE-NS digital solutions and follows the accompanying business rules
- participates in professional development opportunities
- follows the AWARE-NS Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Policy
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- OHS certificate, diploma, or degree from a recognized institution (e.g. NSCC, UNB)
- Current knowledge of OHS practices and regulations
- Driver's license and availability to travel throughout Nova Scotia (occasionally overnight, reliable, insured vehicle)
- Ability to work in the Halifax office on a regular basis
- Aptitude for time management; for addressing multiple requests with ease; and to work independently
- Office 365 knowledge and skills (Outlook, Calendar (shared), Teams, SharePoint, Power-Point, Excel, Word, Forms)
- Experience with database entry and use
- Competence in organized, digital record keeping
- A self-starter
- A minimum score of 7-8 on a CLB-OSA ESL listening and reading tests (no cost to the candidate)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 3 years of experience working in the OHS field
- Experience working in the healthcare and / or related fields
- Experience working with non-profit organizations, educators, and /or government agencies
- Experience working in a team-focused environment
NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
- Project management experience
- CRSP or CRST certification
- Experience with on-line course development
- Knowledge of adult education principles
- Experience teaching virtually

- Free parking (There is limited public transit in the area.)

- Sitting (or standing) for extended periods of time at a desk
- Frequent work-related interruptions
- Occasional light lifting (no more than 35 lbs.)
- Second floor location (Unfortunately, our building space is not accessible.)
