We are seeking a dynamic and experienced business professional to join our team and oversee the vital back-office business-enablement services required to support the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project (MLAP). This is a leadership role that requires overseeing all project services, including project controls, document management, risk assessment, and reporting to ensure that the necessary services are in place for successful project execution. This role is integral to ensuring smooth day-to-day operations for our Project Managers and Major Works Leads.
The Manager, Business Services is responsible for managing key project services, such as schedule and cost controls, accounting, finance, reporting, IT/IM support, and liaising with the broader corporation to ensure alignment with corporate goals, while enabling the seamless execution of project activities. As the Manager, Business Services, you will play a crucial role in supporting the project managers and other team members by providing essential data and services for decision-making, ensuring all project functions are appropriately supported under the direction of the MLAP Project Director.
Key responsibilities include the development and implementation of the following:
- Project Support and Business Services: Ensures that all essential "back-office" business-enablement services (such as accounting, finance, reporting, IT/IM support) are in place to support the project manager and main works leads. This also includes ensuring alignment with corporate processes or diverging when necessary.
- Project Services Oversight: Oversees all project services, including controls, scheduling, document control, risk management, and reporting. It provides vital information to aid decision-making by project managers and ensures that services support project needs in terms of cost control, scheduling, and compliance with policies and standards.
- Project Controls and Corporate Alignment: Ensures that project controls and services link back to corporate reporting and controls. They are responsible for the integrity of cost control, scheduling, and document management systems, and ensuring they align with corporate standards, especially for major contracts.
- Team Management: Manages the Business Services team, ensuring that the team has the necessary expertise and resources, whether through permanent staff, temporary employees, consultants, or secondments, to meet the evolving needs of the project. The team may grow significantly as the project progresses.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field
- Eight years of experience in construction projects and programs with in-depth knowledge of and hands-on experience with large public works projects, particularly in the realm of heavy civil works
- Three years of experience in a leadership role within a major project environment with demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively, ensuring alignment with project objectives
- Five years of experience specifically in project controls
- A Professional designation such as CPA, CFA, or P.Eng is considered an asset
- Experience working with Crown Corporations is considered an asset
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- A proactive, solution-oriented approach to challenges and the ability to adapt to changing project needs
- High attention to detail and commitment to ensuring project success through effective back-office support
- Ability to manage and mentor a growing team, ensuring they have the resources and expertise needed for the project's success
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
