About the Organization

The Violence Against Women Research Team, based within the Department of Community Health & Epidemiology at Dalhousie University, focuses on strengthening systems responses to violence against women and gender diverse people. The team works with community, practice, and policy partners on studies that use qualitative, quantitative, mixed, and knowledge synthesis methods to understand burdens of violence and evaluate intervention and policy responses. Over the next five years, we will be leading a program of work focused on designing, implementing, and evaluating intervention strategies that strengthen health systems responses to violence in Canada. Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate will take a leadership role in supporting all aspects of the studies, including qualitative and quantitative data collection, data management and analysis, and the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations. The Research Associate will be involved in intervention research, implementation science, and partnership-based research projects using mixed methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and manage research activities, including designing research protocols and intervention implementation and evaluation strategies, design and piloting surveys and interview guides,
  • Support participant recruitment, conduct of surveys and interviews, engagement of non-academic partners, and organizing meetings.
  • Perform qualitative data analysis, including preparing datasets, coding, and contributing to the development of thematic frameworks.
  • Perform quantitative data analysis, including cleaning data, running descriptive and inferential statistics, and producing results tables and summaries.
  • Prepare knowledge translation outputs, including writing academic papers and delivering presentations.
  • Support and collaborate with research staff and trainees contributing to the research project.

Note The successful applicant may work in-person on campus, primarily remotely, or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in health, social sciences, or related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in an academic research environment with leadership responsibilities.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience managing staff or students, budgets, and other project resources.
  • Experience or qualifications related to implementation science or intervention research.
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • Experience using qualitative (e.g., NVivo or Dedoose) and quantitative analytic software (e.g., Stata or R).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals or other research outputs.

Assets

  • PhD in health, social sciences or related field.
  • Mixed-methods research skills.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Experience conducting partnership-based research.
  • A demonstrated interest in preventing violence against women, supporting survivors of violence, or promoting gender and intersectional equity.
