The Opportunity:
Nova Scotia Pharmacare Programs administers a number of Pharmacare programs on behalf of the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness (DHW). These programs are administered under the guidelines of a contract between Medavie Blue Cross and DHW.
Reporting to the Team Leader, Nova Scotia Pharmacare Programs, this position is responsible for reviewing requests for special authorizations and applying the criteria as outlined by the DHW and communicating in a professional, knowledgeable, and personable manner with the public and health professionals on matters relating to the Nova Scotia Pharmacare Programs. The role requires a high level of professionalism, customer services, communication skills (verbal and writing), analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
This position is a great fit for someone with a pharmacy technician or assistant background who is interested in supporting health programs for Nova Scotians.
Remote work opportunity within the province of Nova Scotia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieving and maintaining a working knowledge of the special authorization review process, with the ability to assess requests independently ,
- Achieving and maintaining competent knowledge regarding all phases of the Nova Scotia Pharmacare Programs' activities and procedures,
- Answering telephone inquiries from the public and health professionals with respect to the status of prescriptions eligible/ineligible under the Program,
- Answering telephone inquiries from the public and health professionals with respect to the Program,
- Maintaining knowledge and understanding of the claims adjudication system for Nova Scotia Pharmacare,
- Assisting in maintaining current information regarding eligibility status of recipients and insured benefits.
Required Qualifications:
Education : Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician or Assistant program .
Work Experience : Minimum two years of experience in a community pharmacy. Knowledge of claims adjudication systems would be considered an asset.
Computer Skills : Comprehensive computer skills and proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. Basic knowledge of claims and eligibility systems would be considered an asset.

- High level of accuracy with attention to detail,
- Strong organizational and analytical skills,
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills, with expertise in dealing with the public and health professionals
