JOB PURPOSE
The Benefits Officer is responsible for providing administrative and benefit support.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduation plus additional business or administrative support program of over six months and up to one year or equivalent. Two years of previous experience is also required.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Good work record.
Demonstrated proficiency verified by testing in:
- Data Entry 4000
- Typing 35 wpm
- Excel 50%
- Outlook 50%
- Word 50%
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Benefit Officer is responsible for:
- Sends insured benefits packages to new employees and to employees who have status changes.
- Prepares, distributes, responds to inquiries on continuation of benefits for employees on leave.
- Explains insured benefits to employees.
- Process insured benefits and pension enrollments in Meditech, sends to Pensions, updates Medavie website, etc.
- Distributes communications to employees.
- Responds to inquiries from Vestcor.
- Receives and process payments for continuation of benefits.
- Process waiver of premium and LTD.
- Compiles statistical information and prepares reports such as seniority, status changes, employees' eligibility for beneftis, employees paying union dues.
- Performs general office duties such as faxing, photocopying, filing, processing mail.
- Shows others how to perform tasks or duties as part of the departmental orientation.
- Covers Benefit Officers in other areas
- Back up for Reception.
