The Manager, Prevention Services, is a leadership position accountable to lead, guide, and direct occupational health and safety (OHS) education programs and services for workplaces in Newfoundland and Labrador.
In particular, you will have direct oversight of safety certification training standards, OHS education and learning resource development, young worker safety programs, and PRIME auditing services. The educational programs and services delivered by your team of OHS professionals will serve to protect workers from workplace hazards, and ultimately impact the prevalence of workplace incidents, injuries and illnesses in our province. You have expert knowledge on all pertinent OHS legislation, WorkplaceNL programs, policies, and procedures and can evaluate OHS programs and monitor service delivery.
Role Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring and direction to team members.
- Provides professional and technical support to the team.
- Identifies and promotes effective occupational health and safety educational practices focused on the reduction of injuries and illnesses.
- Consults with stakeholders including industry sectors, labour and employer groups, technical advisory committees and other government departments.
- Continuously evaluates health and safety programs, service delivery, measurement systems and training needs.
- Responsible for the achievement of team's key performance indicators.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Science, Education, Business, or Health-related discipline.
- Completion of a professional safety designation (CRSP, CHSC, RIH, CRM) is a requirement.
- Experience in team building, leadership, planning and managing projects, performance management and operational planning.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Five (5) years' experience in occupational health and safety program design and health and safety management experience.
