Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources (Pension & Benefits), the HR Assistant (Clerk Typist III) provides highly confidential clerical, secretarial and administrative support to the Pension & Benefits unit within the Human Resources Division of NLSchools. The successful candidate will liaise with the NLSchools' pension administrator (Provident 10), insurance provider and part time pension administrator (Canada Life), as well as Payroll and Regional HR teams within the Department. Specific duties include: responding to general inquiries related to insurance and pension administration; answering phone calls and drafting correspondence as necessary; conducting insurance and pension eligibility reviews and transfers; updating and maintaining the external insurance database as well as other applicable electronic databases and spreadsheets; tracking employee leave for benefit continuation purposes; carrying out routine audits on employee insurance and pension files; management and organization of confidential correspondence, records and other reports; performing routine filing and file retrieval; and other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have completed a two-year Office Administration program, from a recognized post-secondary institution, combined with 3 - 5 years of relevant work experience in an administrative role. Candidates should possess a thorough knowledge of human resources practices, preferably in pension and benefit administration. Equivalencies may be considered. Excellent knowledge of computerized software applications such as email, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access is required. Applicants must possess strong communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to take initiative and work independently. The successful candidate must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work in a complex and fast-paced environment. Knowledge of the Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP), Government Money Pension Plan (GMPP) and Canada Life Benefits Plan would be considered an asset.
