Definition of Work:
The Addictions Counsellor I is a specialized clinical position that provides addictions and concurrent treatment services to youth who reside at the Hope Valley Treatment Center and their families. The successful candidate will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team. This position reports to the Regional Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Services. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive assessment, treatment, and follow up services in the context of an integrated mental health and addictions team process. The Addictions Counsellor must have considerable knowledge of Best Practice Standards in the area of complex mental health and addictions issues with youth. The successful candidate will screen and assess applications received for treatment at Hope Valley Center and make recommendations to management and the Provincial Admissions Committee regarding suitability. The Addictions Counsellor will conduct clinical assessments, provide treatment, participate regularly in discharge planning processes, consult with other professionals and community groups regarding programming and treatment issues and support self-help, consumer, and caregiver initiatives. This position will provide health promotion and prevention services based on a population health approach. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centred care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
The Hope Valley Treatment Centre is home to a therapy dog which is often used as part of therapeutic programming for clients. Employees will have regular contact with the therapy dog and will share responsibilities associated with the care of these dog.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Masters in Clinical Psychology or Graduates Degree in a Clinical Discipline.
- Eligibility for registration with NLASW.
- 2 years current experience (within the last 5 years) in an addictions and/or mental health setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families and groups.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of professional addictions, concurrent disorder and Best Practice Standards as it relates to assessment, treatment, planning, counselling, and evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of independence while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong skills in interpersonal relationships, interdisciplinary team collaboration, leadership, communication, advocacy, networking, time management, case management, and client support.
- Use of a private vehicle and valid driver license are a condition of employment
- Satisfactory Record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
- Satisfactory Child, Youth and Family Services records check.

- A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred Qualifications:
