The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is actively working to hire individuals from under-represented groups, particularly people of African Nova Scotian, African Canadian and African ancestry and Mi'kmaw/Indigenous ancestry, and invites applicants from under-represented groups to express their interest in term teaching positions for the 2025-26 school year by applying to this posting.

The local Collective Agreement between HRCE and the Nova Scotia Teachers Union supports the hiring of up to 16 candidates by way of an equity term contract.

Equitable hiring strengthens the knowledge and expertise in our schools, and supports our public education system in establishing schools as safe, caring, and accessible learning spaces that support all students. This will provide opportunities for students to see themselves reflected throughout their schools, learning resources, and within their learning experiences.

HRCE is the largest Centre for Education in Atlantic Canada serving 58,000 students in 137 schools. Our geographic region spans a 350 km radius. Contracts are with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education and not with any particular school. If offered a contract, recipients will be advised of the applicable staffing process and timelines to secure a position for September 2025.

    HRCE maintains casual pools (substitute lists) for our administrative assistant, after school child care, custodian, educational program assistant, library support specialist, lunch monitor, pre-primary and teacher positions to provide short term coverage to schools when permanent staff are away.
