Reporting to the Vice President, CFO, the individual will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships within Tangerine business units and CB Finance
  • Reporting of the Bank's Management Accounting Financial results
  • Leading the Tangerine Quarterly forecast and Annual profit plan, and 5 year outlook processes
  • Perform deep-dive analysis on key financial issues, identifying key drivers, providing insightful commentary, and thoughtful recommendations.
  • Lead and oversee expense management process and policies
  • Lead and oversee financial governance framework for Tangerine Project Portfolio, including projects executed with fixed capacity
  • Support ad hoc analysis requests as required

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Develop and sustain strategic relationships with key business line stakeholders, to enable them to deliver on the business line strategic goals effectively and efficiently, providing value-added analysis and insights
  • Develop and measure performance on financial components of the annual planning process and quarterly forecasting, and 5-year outlook
  • Provide financial KPIs to support Bank strategic goals / Objective & Key Results (OKR)
  • Lead and oversee Tangerine's expense management process and policies, including planning, forecasting, variance analysis. Ensure expense management discipline and alignment to Bank expense policies
  • Lead and oversee the financial governance framework for Tangerine's Project Portfolio, including projects executed with fixed capacity.
  • Business case review - provide effective challenge, value-add analysis, and recommendations on Tangerine's investments, identifying opportunities for savings and driving effective expense management for business case and project spending across the Bank. Ensure benefits tracking commitments in place and reasonable
  • Support and collaborate with business lines (Product, IT, Marketing, Service and Sales, Operations), by providing value-added insights and transparency, including regular monthly product segment P&L reporting Analyze report output and make strategic recommendations to the business lines about opportunities to drive revenue, reduce costs or both.
  • Report monthly and quarterly results to BNS, including variance analysis. Work closely with the Canadian Banking Finance team on financial results (on management accounting basis) and outlook for Tangerine, including monthly / quarterly management reports (MMR / QMR), quarterly blue book
  • Lead the production of regular management reporting, on regular and ad hoc basis, including monthly Performance reports, Management team meetings, Board meetings. Lead design and ongoing improvement of management reporting to ensure content, depth and accuracy meet key stakeholder needs. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data sources
  • Provide ad hoc information / analysis to Investor Relations as needed
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Accounting designation / MBA / university degree in Accounting, Finance or similar discipline
  • 7 - 10 years of relevant experience in a financial area, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of banking industry products/services
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills with the perspective of continually seeking opportunities for improvement
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to distill large amounts of information into compelling, transparent and insightful reporting
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills and knowledge (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate appropriately with senior Bank executives
  • Strong financial modelling and analytics capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire a team, lead change and coach for performance and development
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and set priorities and meet deadlines
