Reporting to the Station Manager of the Belledune Generating Station, the Maintenance Superintendent is a key leadership role within the Station responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Structural Maintenance, and Planning departments ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Station by implementing and overseeing an effective maintenance program. The Belledune Generating Station personnel is also responsible for the Millbank and Nepisiguit Falls Generating Stations as well as the Eel River HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current convertor Station).
The Maintenance Superintendent requires strong decision-making skills, particularly when evaluating cost-effective repair methods and efficiently allocating resources, all while ensuring that station availability and reliability targets are consistently met. Additionally, the position requires effective leadership and budget management, as well as strategic decision-making to optimize operations of the Station.
Key functions include:
- Provide direction and feedback to the Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Structural Maintenance, and Planning departments, ensuring alignment with Station goals and operational requirements. Provide coaching and development opportunities for employees, fostering a positive and productive work environment while promoting safety and operational excellence.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and effective maintenance program to achieve Station availability, reliability, and efficiency targets in a safe and cost-effective manner. Evaluate and make decisions on the most cost-effective methods for carrying out repairs, including the use of in-house resources or outside contractors, considering cost and workforce requirements. Oversee planned and unplanned outages and forced outages.
- Prepare, oversee, and manage the maintenance OM&A and capital budgets and performance metrics for the station. Monitor and report on budget performance and adjusting as necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement within the maintenance teams, fostering a culture of efficiency, and ensuring high standards of performance and safety are maintained across all activities.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or an industrial trade certification in a mechanical, electrical or related discipline
- Ten years of experience in industrial facilities, specializing in maintenance operations, equipment management, and facility optimization
- Five years of experience in a leadership role with a proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams, providing clear direction, and making informed decisions that contribute to performance and safety
- Experience in preparing and managing operational and capital budgets, with a focus on cost control and efficiency
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for operational improvements with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and senior leadership
- Proficiency in maintenance management software, asset management, and predictive maintenance systems would be an asset
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
