Definition of Work:
This is a varied professional nursing position with responsibility to provide complete nursing care on the General Surgery Unit. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

• Constantly moves/lifts up to 10-15lbs, regularly moves/lifts up to 50lbs; required to restrain/reposition/move/lift up to, or above, 50lbs with co-worker assistance and repetitively required to complete pushing/pulling with medium force (22-44lbsF).
• Constantly stands/walks. May work in awkward or cramped positions to assist with care. Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching, bending/twisting and repeated bouts of low-level postures such as squatting, crouching or stooping
• Potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other contagion. May be exposed to patients/residents with potential risk for aggressive behavior.
• Work Environments present potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Consistent demonstration of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE).
• Demonstrated competency in working to the full scope of practice (as per the CRNNL and Central Health's policies and procedures) and standards of care relevant to designated client population.
• Completion of other skills and post basic competencies as required.
• Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Wound Care Management, GI/GU care and management (ex: ostomy care, total parenteral nutrition, NG insertion and care), pre/post-operative care and management, and Medication Administration including IM, IV and subcutaneous injections.
• Provide supportive post-operative oversight through partnership with patients, and the interdisciplinary team, as position includes a wide range of responsibilities
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
• Current Health Assessment certification or willingness to complete next available course.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in surgical unit nursing.
• Current PALS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
