ob Summary
N L Health Services Urban Zone is inviting applications for a Salaried Family Physician to join the Division of Family Medicine in St. John's, NL.
N L Health Services is pleased to support its Primary Health Care Clinic in achieving its goals of providing exceptional and high-quality care to patients in the St. John's-Metro region. Newcomer Health Services (NHS) (currently known as the Refugee Health Collaborative) is a partnership between NL Health Services, the Discipline of Family Medicine, Memorial University, and the Association for New Canadians (ANC) to elevate the standard of healthcare services for refugees within primary health care (PHC) settings. Services will be provided using an inter-professional collaborative approach where patients will see the right provider at the right time and right place. The team includes physicians, NPs, public health and primary care RNs, and clerical support as well as client support from ANC settlement staff. All health care providers, including physicians, will be expected to practice to their full scope of practice to meet patient needs and requirements. This clinic will be staffed with clinicians possessing specialized skills in refugee healthcare and maintaining strong connections with both the refugee community and partner organizations.
The mandate of the NHS incorporates the following key components, where the NHS will:
- Provide initial transitional PHC services for refugees during the crucial first 12-18 months following arrival into the country through the completion of comprehensive initial health assessments and follow up care.
- Act as a gateway to facilitate attachment to a primary care provider (i.e., Family Care Teams or Private Physician offices) within the local health system, ensuring seamless integration into ongoing care.
- Provide consultation to other clinicians across the province who may be working with the refugee population.
W e are seeking physician leaders to meet the complex PHC needs of our newcomer population. Our ideal candidates will have a strong patient focus and excellent communication skills with a keen interest in practicing in a collaborative team approach.
