Job Summary
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are valuable members of the interdisciplinary health care team. LPNs provide direct nursing care to stable and unstable clients/patients/residents under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The LPN I in the Surgery Program works within their individual scope of practice is responsible for health assessment, medication administration, nursing care planning, disease manageme nt, wound care, assisting the physician with bedside surgical procedures, orthopedic casting , and may provide mentoring and direction to students and other staff.

Regularly requires physical exertion and handling, moving, pushing or pulling objects between 10 - 15 lbs and occasionally required to support, lift or move patients/objects up to 30 lbs.
Regularly required to work in awkward cramped positions (bending/kneeling/stretching) and constantly standing and moving about.
Regularly pushes and pulls objects using light to medium forces and stands and walks.
Regularly requires visual concentration to give medications, read orders/referrals, patients' charts/document, observe and treat patients combined with time pressures and deadlines.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program is required.
Current and continuing licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL) is required. Incumbent must have or be willing to complete, Advanced training in Orthopedic care for LPN's.
Current BLS certification is required.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
