JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Head of the Regional Thoracic Surgery Department and the Medical Director for the sector, the thoracic surgeon provides care for congenital and acquired illnesses of the chest wall, mediastinum, lungs, trachea, pleura, esophagus, stomach and diaphragm. The thoracic surgeon cares for patients of all ages with acute or chronic conditions affecting the thoracic region of the body, with the exception of the heart.

The thoracic surgeon also works with other health professionals to deliver diversified and comprehensive care to patients and their loved ones.

REQUIREMENTS:

Degree from a recognized medical school and residency leading to licensure in general or cardiac surgery.

A recognized medical school is a school that meets the following criteria:

  • Accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (in the United States);

OR

  • Listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with a note for Canada;
  • Experience (one to three years) considered an asset;
  • Any other combination of training and experience deemed relevant and equivalent may be considered;
  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick;
  • Active member of the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance association;
  • Member of the New Brunswick Medical Society;
  • Privileges with Vitalité Health Network;
  • Registration with New Brunswick Medicare;
  • Ability to remain calm;
