In this role, you will :
- Manage the team that performs the day-to-day financial planning and analysis for your designated program, including budgeting, transactional reconciliation and review, general ledger journal entries as needed, monthly forecast updates, and monthly and ad hoc financial reporting to operational teams, finance senior management, and external funders.
- Understand staff related policies and procedures and ensures operational compliance and provide leadership, training, coaching, and advice to staff to facilitate continuous improvement and development.
- Reviews project budgets prepared by the team for completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness and collaborates accordingly to resolve any discrepancies or issues before they are shared with operations, senior management, or external funders.
- Ensures proper funding agreement financial structure set up, including but not limited to, bank accounts, trust funds, and financial dimension / billable coding, and that these are properly communication to relevant stakeholders.
- Provides training, guidance, and support to operational staff related to project deployments and financial information treatment and reporting requirements.
- Reviews project analysis and reporting prepared by the team for completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness and collaborates accordingly to resolve any discrepancies or issues before they are shared with operations, senior management, or external funders.
- Collaborates with the Billing Team to ensure external funder invoices are complete, accurate, and reasonable.
- Ensures the annual budgeting process occurs as scheduled, including ensuring assumptions and inputs are complete and accurate.
- Ensures in depth analysis of revenues and expenditures to ensure they are complete, accurate, and reasonable is completed correctly and as scheduled by analyst team.
- Reviews supporting documentation and adjusting journal entries prepared by analyst team, and ensures they are approved and posted within given deadlines.
- Performs monthly review of general ledger and projections to identify any errors or omissions and ensures corrections are made within given deadlines.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly financial and statistical variance analysis and reports to be submitted as part of the monthly reporting package.
What we are looking for :
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) and a minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting theory, techniques, and policies.
- Experience directly working with and reporting to both operational and financial senior management.
- Experience in people management, specifically direct reports.
- Experience working with Microsoft D365 and/or Solver systems is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills along with the ability to make sound financial decisions.
- Superior knowledge of Excel is required and knowledge of PowerBI is considered an asset.
- Superior organization and time management skills reflected in the ability to prioritize and multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision, and collaboratively within a team in a matrix structure.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate and report effectively to operations and senior management. French is considered an asset.
