Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.

What you will do

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • supervising senior technical staff of the Special Permits Unit;
  • managing DTIâ??s trucking programs and initiatives including, but not limited to, the highway uprating program, long combination vehicle program, winter weight premium program, spring weight restrictions, and various pilot projects;
  • working with industry throughout the province to form strategic partnerships to further develop the strategic corridors initiative;
  • working with other provinces and territories towards harmonizing vehicle weights and dimensions rules and regulations on both a national and regional level;
  • reviewing vehicle configurations submitted by industry or senior technical staff for operation in New Brunswick;
  • coordinating reviews of traffic management plans for super moves within the province;
  • consulting with other branches of the Department (as well as GNB) regarding various issues related to the operation of trucks/heavy vehicles on provincial highways; and
  • providing support to the Special Permits Unit as needed.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Open office layout.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday â?? Friday.

Essential Qualifications:

Engineer 3:

  • University degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years related work experience in the field of transportation.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.
  • Valid class 5 driverâ??s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification.

Engineer 2:

  • University degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years related work experience in the field of transportation.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.
  • Valid class 5 driverâ??s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following asset:

  • knowledge of the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application the asset qualification in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:

Engineer 3: $2,840.95 to $3,888.52 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.

Engineer 2: $2,658.78 to $3,552.34 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.
