The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking an individual to join the Crop Sector Development Branch as a Regional Crop Officer, in Grand Falls.

As a member of the Crop Sector Development team, reporting to the Section Manager and also working collaboratively with the livestock sector development team, the successful candidate will be responsible for working directly with agricultural producers, agri-business, associations, and other regional public and private stakeholders, to foster development, competitiveness and sustainability of agricultural businesses. Key responsibilities will include providing crop production technical advisory services and participating in the delivery of crop production related funding programs such as the Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership. The successful candidate will participate as a member of sector teams involved in the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives in the areas of agricultural production, research, innovation, and technology, as well as represent regional and departmental interests on various crop production related committees at the regional, provincial, and national levels. They will also be responsible for performing duties related to emerging new and alternative crops and livestock. Other related duties may be assigned, as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Agrologist 1: A Bachelor of Science degree with specialization in Agriculture or a closely related field.

Agrologist 2: A Bachelor of Science degree with specialization in Agriculture or a closely related field and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience related to crop production.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

The successful candidate must be eligible for membership in the New Brunswick Institute of Agrologists and membership must be attained within six (6) months of appointment.

Resumes should be in chronological order specifying education and employment in months and years including part-time and full-time employment.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate experience in one or more of the following: horticultural and/or field crop production practices and technology transfer; livestock production practices; soil science related to fertilizers, manure, and agricultural soils and/or crops; working with producers and producer groups. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: travel within the northwestern region of New Brunswick as required; travel to other areas of New Brunswick and the Maritime provinces on occasion, including over-night stays; possess a valid class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick, or equivalent.

SALARY:
Agrologist 1: $54,231.06 to $74,229.74 per annum

Agrologist 2: $65,353.86 to $83,202.34 per annum
