These services are intended to promote wellness, decrease suffering, and prevent injury. Services may be provided through independent practice or as part of an interdisciplinary care team.

Northwest Territories' CHNs are provided with one of the highest salaries in Canada, including an incredible compensation and recruitment package. The annual salary range for a full-time CHN in the NWT ranges from $113,704 to $135,817, with potential additional gross earnings (before overtime, shift-premiums, and on-call pay) of between approximately $31,400 and $72,500 within the first year of employment, based on northern living allowance, recruitment bonus, 1-year retention bonus, and other paid benefits.

Additional benefits include relocation assistance, professional fees reimbursements, northern tax benefits (up to $11/day in deductions after 6-months of residency), outstanding leave benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, health and dental plans, maternity and parental leave, professional development opportunities, education support, and an optional deferred salary leave plan. CHNs are also typically eligible for student loan forgiveness through Canada's Loan Forgiveness Program.

These positions typically require the completion of a nursing degree, plus two years relevant work experience in an acute care setting or northern health centre.
