JOB PURPOSE

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides quality patient care within the scope of professional practice to patients and families during their critical care or medical experience. Performs other duties as assigned. Although primarily assigned to the Emergency Department, may be reassigned to other units as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active registration with NANB
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Demonstrates teaching, communication and team building skills
  • Demonstrates assessment skills and ability to function independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities and complex patient care needs
  • IV Therapy/venipuncture certification
  • Defibrillation certification
  • ACLS certified or willing to obtain
  • Trauma Nursing (TNCC), Emergency Paediatric Nursing (ENPC) certification preferred or willing to obtain
  • BCMI certification or willing to obtain
  • Demonstrated ability to safely transport patients i.e. ambulance transfers
  • 2 years Critical Care experience preferred or willing to take the Critical Care Course
  • Experience in an acute care setting an asset
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with patients, families, public, staff and physicians in order to develop positive working relationships
  • Willingness to adhere to departmental/corporate policies and procedures.
  • Good work record

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to emergency situations and rapidly changing priorities
  • Prioritizes and delivers complex patient care
  • Administration of critical care IV medications
  • Completes annual advanced nursing competencies related to critical care
  • Performs the duties of the position including ambulance transfers
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of work
  • May be responsible to act as nurse in charge.
