The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development is seeking an individual to join the Forest Operations and Development Branch as a Regional Inspector, in Miramichi.

As a member of the Timber Products team and reporting to the section Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight of scaling of timber on Crown Licenses 3 and 5, the regional administration of the Crown land check scale program, Crown timber product utilization assessment as part of the results-based Licenses 3 and 5 team, Transportation Certificate roadside compliance checks, Crown scale and wood tracking audits and oversight of the Crown harvest permit programs, including fuelwood in the Region. The successful candidate will also be responsible for: ensuring that the programs are monitored and administered consistently and are in accordance with Provincial standards, Acts and Regulations including the Crown Lands and Forest Act, Scaler's Act, Transportation of Primary Forest Products Act, and the New Brunswick Scaling Manual; providing expertise and assistance to department staff, licensees, industry and public on various aspects of scaling, product utilization and wood tracking; and performing other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A diploma from a recognized forest resource technical program; a minimum of eight (8) years of post-diploma natural resource related experience, including a minimum of three (3) years of experience in forest utilization, scaling, and wood tracking assessments. A valid New Brunswick Scalers Licence is required. An equivalent combination of experience may be considered.

  • Specialized subject matter expertise and knowledge;
  • Knowledge of auditing procedures;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and departmental policies and procedures related to forest operations, scaling, wood tracking and product utilization;
  • Ability to use office technology, software and applications, including Microsoft Office, NB Sample and ArcGIS software;
  • Planning and organizing skills.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate must be prepared to: travel throughout Crown License 3 and 5 when necessary; work alone with minimal supervision; carry out physically demanding tasks; work outside in inclement weather on all types of terrain; possess a valid New Brunswick Scalers Licence; possess a valid Class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick, or equivalent; successfully complete a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) vulnerable sector reference check as requested.

SALARY: $62,036 to $77,480 per annum
