Reporting to the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Manager, the Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator will provide administrative and technical support for the OHSE department. The OHS Coordinator will work directly with leadership and employees as a part of an integrated team to conduct risk assessments, assist with incident investigation and provide internal safety training.
- Demonstrated commitment to IMP Occupational Health Safety & Environment policies with a focus on continuous improvement and building a strong safety culture.
- Advise and promote proactive hazard awareness to reduce incidents in the workplace; assist with root cause analysis within incident investigations as required.
- Provide guidance to production and support departments in matters of occupational health, safety and the environment based on applicable laws, regulations and codes.
- Maintain up to date OHSE data, department tracking and prepare monthly statistical reports.
- Conduct documented risk assessments of workplace processes to identify hazards and develop sound strategies to control hazards identified.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to help facilitate the safe return to work program.
- Prepare and deliver Health and Safety training as required to employees, contractors and visitors as required.
- Inspect and maintain OHSE and emergency response tools, equipment, supplies, equipment, and communication boards.
- Coordinate qualitative and quantitative fit testing and other external safety testing as required.
- Keep current on relevant health and safety legislation, standards and best practices.
- Completion of post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety with one-year related experience or a minimum of 3 years of related experience in an occupational health and safety role.
- Education or previous experience in ergonomics and disability case coordination is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety regulations, codes, standards, and best practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and handle stressful situations in a unionized environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the company.
- Must possess exceptional communication skills, including ability to listen and gather information effectively, present to groups, and create clear and concise written reports.
- Strong working knowledge of all required MS Office software.
- The successful applicants will be eligible to meet requirements for the U.S. International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP);
- Applicant must be able to pass and maintain a Level II (Secret) security clearance with the Department of National Defence.
