Title : Advisor, Community Relations, Diversity and Migration

In this role, you will :

Responsibility 1 - Provide advisory support and deployment of operations

  • Advise and support the management structure and operations teams on issues relating to diversity (particularly cultural and religious, but not excluding others) and migration.
  • Proactively and continuously monitor and research diversity and migration issues, including data, tools, strategies and learning within Canadian Red Cross (CRC), the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and other stakeholders.
  • Be actively involved or make recommendations for the development, optimization and implementation of documentation, tools and procedures related to the area of expertise.
  • Plan and implement projects related to the area of expertise and support activities and objectives in relation to the Community Relations mandate.
  • Develop and lead information/orientation sessions, workshops and exercises related to the area of expertise for employees and volunteers.
  • Support the deployment of various CRC operations and programs and provide expertise in collaboration and coordination with local stakeholders.

Responsibility 2 - Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Proactively collaborate with various teams and represent the sector in working groups within the CRC, in Quebec and with groups within the national office or other geographies as appropriate.
  • Facilitate internal meetings or working committees for projects or files as assigned.
  • Proactively develop and maintain quality relationships with various stakeholders, including community organizations offering settlement and integration programs, cultural and religious community leaders, local government institutions, researchers and others.
  • Maintain updated contact lists and track relationships using designated tools.
  • Represent the CRC during meetings with external partners to identify issues and opportunities for the organization.
  • Contribute to the implementation and enhancement of the Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) approach within the CRC and with external stakeholders.

Responsibility 3 - Monitor, evaluate, and report on the mandate

  • Participate in the development of annual objectives for the Community Relations Mandate then develop, maintain and update the annual work plan based on these objectives.
  • Actively participate in the monitoring, documentation and evaluation of files and projects as assigned, as well as in other Community Relations mandate learnings, and make recommendations and adjustments accordingly.
  • Produce activity and analysis reports related to the response field and support reporting as part of the Community Relations mandate.

Responsibility 4 - Other

  • Participate in CRC meetings and events as appropriate.
  • Ensure Red Cross training is complete and up-to-date and attend any additional training required for the specific mandate.
  • Be available to assist to response efforts during medium and large-scale events requiring the mobilization of CRC teams.
  • Ensure that applicable norms, procedures and standards are respected, applied and maintained.
  • Any other task related to the position that may be required.

What we are looking for :

  • A university degree in a related discipline; a combination of relevant experience may be considered.
  • At least three to five years of relevant experience in diversity and migration issues in Québec in an advisory role with management at a public agency or non-governmental organization, or equivalent experience relevant to the position.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the diversity and migration stakeholders (particularly cultural and religious communities) and relevant processes, programs and realities in Quebec, Canada and globally.
  • Knowledge of the community sector (stakeholders, collaboration mechanisms), issues and opportunities, and stances on independent community action.
  • Fluency in French and English is required.
  • Knowledge of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (an asset).
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft 365.

Working Conditions :

  • Temporary full-time position with the possibility of extension if the mandate is extended.
  • Most of the work will be performed in an office environment, with a hybrid of working from home and at the Red Cross office.
  • Travel in the greater Montreal area and possibly in other regions of Quebec / Canada is part of the regular duties of the position.
  • Flexible schedule, sometimes atypical due to travel.
  • Potential for being deployed in the field.
  • Potential for responding in disaster areas, in difficult, unstable (environmentally, physically, socially, etc.) and uncomfortable (noise, odour, smoke, humidity, vulnerable clients) conditions.
  • Possibility to respond during non-traditional hours (i.e., evenings and weekends) and work long hours in a challenging context.
  • May be required to be on call as scheduled.
