The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for a probationary tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2025. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Applicants must have or be expected to have completed a PhD in Statistics, Mathematics or a closely related field by time of appointment.
While the Department welcomes candidates from all backgrounds, strong preference will be given to candidates who identify as female, a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community or from other underrepresented groups in the department. Candidates will be provided with the opportunity to self-identify during the hiring process. The position is open to all research fields of Mathematics and Statistics and are able to support the Department offerings.
The successful candidate will have a strong record of research productivity commensurate with their experience and can demonstrate their potential to establish and maintain external funding and supervise undergraduate students. Independent and collaborative research opportunities are available and encouraged within the Department and the University. Evidence of a well-defined research program and potential for its development are expected.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in teaching, to maintain or enhance the Department's high standard of teaching. The appointed candidate will support the Department's course offerings by contributing to curricular development and teaching a range of undergraduate courses. The successful applicant will also be committed to actively participate in departmental and University activities and service work.
The Department is also seeking candidates who are committed to contributing to StFX's priorities of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. Demonstrated ability in attracting and/or mentoring underrepresented groups of students in the program is also considered an asset.

The Department has 10 tenured/tenure-track research active members committed to the scholarship of teaching and outreach to the community.
