Job Summary
The successful candidate will report to the Regional Manager of Access & Privacy, and Release of Information. The Health Information Management Professional is responsible for releasing patient health information in accordance with appropriate policies and legislation. Providing customer service is also a major function of this role. The incumbent will liaise with the requestor to ensure appropriate information is sent to satisfy the purpose as required. The position is responsible for retrieving charts in various mediums (paper, electronic, microfilm/fiche), administration of fee schedule, preparing invoices and document remittance of fees. Logging all activity in the Release of Information application and acting as a resource for internal/external inquiries.
The incumbent will supervise clients who are reviewing their records; process all subpoenas, court orders and production orders as a designate of the Regional Manager of Release of Information; actively participate in training new staff. Performs other related duties as assigned by the manager.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of a recognized/approved program in Health Information Management is required.
Current and continuing certification as an accredited Health Information Management Professional from the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
Eligibility for membership in the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Information Management Association (NLHIMA) is required.
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Knowledge of PHIA and NL Health Services Policies as it relates to patient health records.
Proficiency and knowledge of computer applications.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
* If there are no applicants that demonstrate the required qualifications, consideration may be given to an applicant who is currently enrolled in, or willing to enroll and complete a recognized/approved Medical Records Technician program. The recipient of this education opportunity will receive financial assistance to help offset the cost of completing the program, and will be required to sign a two-year (3900 hours) return-in-service agreement.
