About Us
The Mental Health & Addictions Program offers health promotion and prevention, urgent and emergent, rehabilitation, and continuing care services to children, youth and adults in acute care, community, and correctional health settings. Services range from assessment, counselling, detoxification, treatment and follow-up to rehabilitation, housing, case management and leisure programming. We are located at various hospital and community sites, in urban and rural settings, throughout the eastern region.

Job Summary
The Creative Arts Therapist (Music Therapist) is responsible for assessing clients referred to music therapy using assessment tools; developing, implementing and evaluating treatment plans; and documentation in a mental health and addictions setting. Music Therapy is provided in an inpatient and outpatient settings to clients, including individual and group treatments. This position works closely with the client, interdisciplinary team and family.
This position is also responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating client-centered music therapy services; maintaining professional standards of practice through the use of outcome measures and critical evaluation of results obtained; and collaborative decision making as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. This position reports to the Division Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Program and maintains accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant responsible for Music Therapy for professional integrity and practice issues.

Regularly requires fine finger skills.
Visual concentration is required to monitor client issues and observe facial/body cues.
Auditory concentration is required to listen to patient commentary during therapy sessions.
Job Qualifications
Graduation with an approved/recognized Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy.
Accreditation with the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT) and has the designation Music Therapist Accredited (MTA).
A member in good standing with CAMT is required.
Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to work independently as well as within an interdisciplinary team setting.
Demonstrated creativity in engaging residents/clients in music therapy interventions.
Knowledge and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of music history, theory, improvisation, music therapy techniques, as well as psychological theories and approaches.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
