Job Summary
This position currently works primarily in the rehabilitation and development services of the Children and Women's Health Program. As the Children and Women's Health Program is a provincial referral center, this position also acts as a resource person for Physiotherapists across the province for children with complex needs. Division/case assignment is subject to change based on operational requirements (i.e. may be reassigned in acute care, rehabilitation or child development).

This position provides Physiotherapy management to children with a variety of long term physical disabilities and complex needs including cerebral palsy, brain injury, spinal cord injury, autism, chronic pain, ADHD and genetic syndromes. Patient management includes providing client assessment, identifying functional issues, setting treatment goals and objectives, providing physiotherapy treatment, determining outcomes and follow-up in conjunction with the patient and family. Community, home and school visits may be required. The Clinical Physiotherapist will work as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, attend multidisciplinary clinics, report physiotherapy assessment findings at team conferences and participate in the planning process to ensure integrated plans and management with other health professionals involved in the care of the child. Weekend and holiday coverage and/or on call service is required on a rotational basis to inpatient units of the Janeway Child Health Center.

Coverage of inpatients in all practice areas (cardiorespiratory, neurodevelopmental, and musculoskeletal) may be required during staff shortages.

Clinical mentorship is provided by the Physiotherapist II and III in the service. Supervision and delegation to a Physiotherapy Support Worker is an expectation. The Physiotherapist will be responsible to precept physiotherapy students and offer other clinical education experiences to students within Eastern Health.

This position reports to the Rehabilitation Division Manager of the Children and Women's Health Program and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Physiotherapy for professional integrity and practice issues.

Regularly required to bend, kneel, stretch and physically lifting, pushing, pulling and/or maneuvering patient/clients with medium force.
Occasionally uses hand tools and equipment.
Time pressures and interruptions are experienced with little control over work pace.
Higher than normal levels of attentiveness/alertness is required when performing activities in ICU with critically ill patients and dealing with clients with complex medical conditions.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Physiotherapy program is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapist (NLCP) is required.
Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families in a one to one and/or group environment.
Ability to direct, supervise and mentor students and physiotherapy support workers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team and be able to prioritize caseload and patient needs.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
