The Municipality of Pictou County (MOPC Network) is seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Services Technician to join our team to contribute to bridging the digital divide in rural Pictou County by providing reliable, high-speed internet services to our valued customers. The ideal candidate will possess the technical expertise and problem-solving skills to install, diagnose and repair a variety of fixed wireless access (FWA) and fibre to the home (FTTH) broadband network hardware. Commitment to delivering and maintaining superior technical and customer satisfaction is a must for this role.

Rolls & Responsibilities:

  • Perform wireless network signal testing and installations
  • Assess, diagnose and repair wireless installation or service issues both remotely and on site
  • Complete FTTH installations including fibre splicing, running fibre drop lines, installing Network Interface Device and completing setup inside customer premise
  • Complete FTTH service calls requiring equipment service or replacement
  • Assistance with FWA tower site service calls and system maintenance as well as facility tower site maintenance i.e.: grass/bush cutting and RF signal testing
  • Contribute to and perform preventive maintenance activities
  • Work with engineering plans to define method of procedure (MOP) documentation
  • Using operations support systems (OSS) systems such as: Netbox, COS, UISP, and Cambium Cloud
  • Professionally represent the MOPC Network with the public and customers and communicate in a positive manner with customers, partners and contractors
  • Other duties as assigned by management to support rural broadband operations as required

Education and Credentials Required :

  • A college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications including Outlook
  • Ability to act with a focus on customer satisfaction with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work autonomously and with minimal supervision with strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines as directed
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Fluent in English
  • Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract
  • Possess good manual dexterity and able to work with different hand tools
  • Capable to lift and carry heavy weight; to climb utility poles and climb and carry ladders; kneel and bend and work in areas with restricted movement; differentiating coloured wires (colour code) and to safely execute all functions/aspects of the job and meet all safety requirements associated with the work equipment and work environment

Working Conditions:

  • The successful candidate must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Schedules within a given day are prepared by the Municipality with due consideration based on seniority
  • Must be available for flexible work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays as required by management
  • Participation in a standby program (callouts) and work overtime as needed
  • Note that many working conditions are subject to terms outlined in the collective agreement
