As part of the Health and Safety team, the Safety Specialist role is responsible to assist the enterprise in living its value of "Safety at Heart". We are committed to the safety of every employee and member of the public through planning safety into the work; following the rules; being a leader in safety; reporting so we can all get better; having courage; and saying no to unsafe work.

Key functions include:
· Work with Station management and supervisors to ensure an overall safe work environment and ensure that each employee recognizes that safety is a core value by way of: maintaining a high level knowledge of provincial safety regulations, NB Power Corporate Safety Standards, and site safety procedures.
· Coordinate training for Station employees to ensure compliance within their roles by way of: maintaining employee training records, organizing training sessions, and scheduling employees for training.
· Remain up-to-date with industry best practices through liaison with provincial and other external safety professionals. As well, to develop and maintain site safety procedures in alignment with these best practices.
· Conduct annual Health and Safety Program Audits. Conduct assessments to ensure the protection of employees, contractors, and the general public, at all times during the planning, commissioning, operation, maintenance, or decommissioning of equipment, or facilities. Conduct observations on Safety Meetings and the Joint Health and Safety Committee Meetings.
· Lead investigations (with supervisory personnel and prescribed workplace parties) including safety incidents, and near misses with high potential for injury or substantial property damage and make recommendations. Such activities will be documented in a formal report and will include effective corrective actions and follow up to ensure they have been effective to prevent re-occurrence.

Our ideal teammate will have:
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation - or the ability to become designated within 18-months from hire date
• Safety Certificate from University of New Brunswick, New Brunswick Community College or other accredited organization
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License

• Five years of experience in a Safety related role
• Three years of experience/training in Safety Auditing and incident investigation
• Experience in adult training and reviewing/writing Health & Safety policy/procedures
• Experience with Safety Field Observations
• Safety experience in an industrial setting will be considered an asset
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
