Demands, duties, qualifications Duties: Performs professional community health nursing work across the life span by carrying out community health programs and services in homes, schools, clinics, and other community settings. Assists and/or conducts assessment of community health needs and assets; provides nursing care and health promotion activities; and liaises with other community and professional personnel. Provides programs and services from preconception to school entry and conducts school health programs including a school health assessment, a provincial immunization program, and communicable disease programs. Provides acute, chronic and palliative nursing care services; monitors personal care homes; conducts provincial home support program and special assistance programs; and utilizes the assessment and placement single-entry process.
Qualifications: Graduation from an approved college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nursing. Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador are required. One year of Community Health nursing (Continuing Care and/or Public Health) experience is preferred. Applicants must also be prepared to demonstrate an ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgement in a community based environment with limited supervision. The incumbent is expected to work collaboratively with team members and community; assess community needs and assets; develop, implement and evaluate community health nursing programs and healthy public policy in a population health framework; communicate effectively orally and in writing; and apply basic computer skills as required, through an interview process. A valid driver's license is required. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is also required.
Applicants who do not possess a Bachelor Degree in Nursing must be willing to complete an approved/recognized post diploma/certificate program in Public Health/Community Health at the first available opportunity as determined by the employer. The successful applicant must successfully complete the post diploma/certificate program within the program's designated timeframe and will start work in the position upon successful completion. Funding to complete the program will be provided by NLHS.
