Responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities

  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas. Perform inspections throughout the entire building to determine the cleanliness and security of the building.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of common areas such as elevators, laundry rooms, public washrooms, lounges, recreation areas, storage rooms, etc. Prepare garbage and refuse for removal from properties and vacated premises, clean garbage rooms/chutes.
  • Clean appliances in laundry rooms. Sweep and wash down stairwells and stair railings. Clean storm sewers, catch pits, etc.
  • Wash, spray buff or strip and wax all flooring as required or directed. Clean vacant units throughout the county.
  • Advise elevator maintenance service immediately if there is any breakdown of elevator service and advise Maintenance as to action taken or required. Report unsafe conditions or practices and take corrective measures if possible.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 or high school equivalent, plus two years' related experience.
  • Able to safely operate equipment involved in cleaning, and tools related to ground maintenance. Able to properly handle cleaning chemicals.
  • Capable of working independently and completing daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Demonstrates tact, discretion, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning, and dealing with inquiries, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
  • This position includes travel throughout the area. A valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are requirements.

Assets

  • Current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
