Rothesay Netherwood School (1877) is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for Grades 6 to 12 that offers innovative, world-class learning experiences in a safe and caring school community. RNS seeks an experienced and dedicated Learning Strategist to support Middle School and Senior School students (Grades 6-12) with identified learning needs. This role involves working closely with the Academic Services team and collaborating with faculty, students, and families to create and implement effective strategies that foster academic success and emotional well-being. The successful candidate will be passionate about student support, data-informed practices and committed to enhancing the student experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support and guidance to students with learning needs through one-on-one and group sessions during the school day.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement universal design strategies that enhance learning for all students, including those with unique learning profiles.
  • Establish positive, supportive relationships with students to empower them to understand their learning needs, develop self-advocacy skills, and take ownership of their academic journey.
  • Interpret and implement strategies based on psychoeducational assessments, develop individualized learning plans, and communicate these plans to students, families, and faculty.
  • Ensure students receive appropriate accommodations for assessments, including IB exams and standardized tests (SATs).
  • Conduct regular consultations with faculty and families to monitor student progress, update support plans, and facilitate student success meetings.
  • Partner with the Academic Services and Wellness teams to integrate academic and socioemotional supports.
  • Create and update documentation for each student and maintain data privacy.
  • Oversee and optimize resources within the Learning Commons, ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.
  • Oversee the Test Writing Center within the Learning Commons to ensure it is well utilized and a welcoming space for all students.
  • Provide assistive technology training as necessary to support learning.
  • Participate in all department and school meetings.
  • Contribute to our co-curricular and athletic programs to support student learning and development outside the classroom.
  • Teaching of one or two courses
  • Duty rotation within the residences.

Qualifications:

  • An accredited teaching certification with additional qualifications in Special Education (Specialist preferred) or Learning Support.
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting high school students with learning needs.
  • Strong background in interpreting educational assessments, creating accommodation plans, and using educational technologies.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and foster a supportive learning environment.
