JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the site Clinical Manager, the Clinical Resource Pharmacist (CRP) in Oncology maintains an advanced clinical practice in oncology, fosters clinical pharmacy practice development, and contributes to the advancement of clinical practice at their local site and regionally. The CRP is recognized as an expert clinical practitioner and serves as a local and regional resource including provision of clinical support, education, training, and mentorship to pharmacy staff and other providers.

Advancement of clinical practice is achieved through developing and ensuring implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and standards as well as research or scholarly contributions to the medical and pharmacy literature. The CRP functions as a leader, mentor, and change agent.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Entry to practice degree in Pharmacy (e.g. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy).
  • Registered or eligible for licensure with the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists and licensed to practice in New Brunswick.
  • Completion of an advanced clinical pharmacy practice program or degree or equivalent experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Practice

  • Develops and maintains an advanced clinical practice in oncology that helps to further the growth and development of oncology pharmacy practice at the site and regional level.
    • An advanced practice focuses on complex patients and/or disease states requiring expert clinical skills and knowledge
  • Leads and advises other pharmacists on complex patient-related problems

Leadership

  • The CRP in Oncology provides leadership and expertise in all aspects of pharmacy practice in oncology including clinical and operational requirements.
  • Supports, and develops individual pharmacist practices, working with the clinical manager to foster an environment of professional growth for pharmacy team members in oncology at the site level.
  • This may include the development and the delivery of educational and training programs or quality improvement projects/initiatives.
  • Involved in the selection of new staff as well as the development of a structured orientation/training program.
  • Acts as a preceptor for pharmacy learners (residents and/or Doctor of Pharmacy students).

Practice Development/Monitoring

  • Develops and supports the implementation of best practices in oncology both clinically and operationally.
  • Working with the site clinical manager, the CRP is responsible for the monitoring of clinical pharmacy services in oncology to identify gaps/deficiencies, needs for standardization or staff development requirements.
  • Provide input into professional development plans and performance appraisals.
  • Collaborates with pharmacy and non-pharmacy stakeholders on projects, initiatives and research activities that promote the advancement of pharmacy's role in the management of medication and other health related needs for patients being treated for cancer
  • Travel may be required within the area or regionally
