Department Overview:

TDBG spends over $5bn each year with suppliers. The Strategic Sourcing Group's (SSG) role, in collaboration with our business partners, is to create sustainable competitive advantage for TDBG by leveraging this 3rd-party spend and the expertise of our key suppliers to meet our needs, reduce total cost and mitigate supply-related risks.

Our role is global in scope, and we have just embarked on a journey within our department, and more broadly across the organization, to transform the way we do sourcing, purchasing and vendor management.

Our team comprises over 200 people who are located in various TDBG locations across North America.

Job Description/Accountabilities:

The Senior Buyer is a results-driven team player responsible for advancing procurement efficiency and supporting the Strategic Sourcing Group (SSG) with multiple procurement initiatives. With expertise of the Ariba tool and in Sourcing, PO management, RFQs, e-Auctions, and contract compliance, the Senior Buyer plays a critical role in optimizing sourcing strategies and managing low to medium-risk engagements and purchase orders for high-impact procure to pay activities. This role interfaces with stakeholders across the organization, internal business partners, subject matter experts, other members of SSG and 3rd-parties to support the execution of the sourcing needs across the Bank.

Reporting to the Manager, Central Buying Team, the senior buyer key accountabilities are:

  • Execute and manage Sourcing requests and Purchase Orders, collaborating closely with the sourcing team, contract managers and vendor managers and coordinating closely with vendors to ensure accurate and timely execution while proactively tracking and addressing issues promptly.
  • Manage low to medium-risk sourcing requests with due diligence, balancing cost, quality, and supplier reliability.
  • Manage RFQs with existing vendors, ensuring competitive and fair pricing for goods and services. Evaluate vendor responses to identify optimal value and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead and support all SSG purchasing tools, serving as the go-to expert on S2P process, e-Auctions, RFQs, and contract compliance within the Ariba platform.
  • Ensure data integrity across purchasing systems and develop actionable insights to enhance procurement efficiency and cost-effectiveness; support monthly reporting of departmental KPIs and savings targets.
  • Engage actively with Strategic Sourcing functions to identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving measures, including leveraging e-auction and RFQ strategies.
  • Build and foster strong relationships with internal teams and stakeholders, promoting alignment on purchasing tools and processes to enhance business outcomes.

Education/Accreditations

  • Post-Secondary education/or equivalent experience
  • Experience in the following is considered an asset:
    • A Purchasing role or demonstrated experience of Strategic Sourcing practices.
    • Work experience on the Ariba tool
    • Experience with e-sourcing tools
    • Experience in building dashboards and reporting
    • Previous Buying or Purchasing experience.

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Demonstrated experience of Strategic Sourcing practices
  • Previous experience working in the procure to pay and source to contract process.
  • Proficiency with procurement tools, especially Ariba, including e-Auction and RFQ setup and execution.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present large datasets for informed decision-making.
  • Strong commercial acumen and business judgment.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder/relationship management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, customer-service focused environment.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
