About the Role

The Community Navigator (CN) primary focus is to work directly with new and prospective residents of to ensure that they have the information and supports they need to have a positive experience settling into the community. The Community Navigator will foster and build community connections that grow Bridgewater's diverse population and ensure that new residents are retained for the long term. The CN will also work closely and foster strong relationships with internal and external partners, including Nova Scotia Health, to achieve physician, resident, and business attraction and retention, and to collaborate on initiatives that support enhanced quality of life and positive experiences for current and future residents.

This position also:

Receives and responds to all inquiries from the public regarding relocation and settlement services within the Town of Bridgewater and the immediate surrounding area.

Working one-on-one with prospective and newly arrived residents to connect them to community partners and assist them in establishing social connections in the community through working with partner organizations and newcomer event/program development.

Leads collaboration with Nova Scotia Health's Physician Recruitment Officer and the Physician Settlement Committee of the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore to attract and retain physicians. This includes but is not limited to developing recruitment packages and participating in physician community/facility tours as requested by partnering organizations and Town Council.

Education:

  • Post-secondary diploma in business administration, public relations, education, placemaking/community development, or related field required
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered

Experience:

  • Previous experience with placemaking, resident recruitment/settlement and/or retention, and community engagement, programming delivery or similar experience are considered assets
  • Experience creating innovative and public-facing cultural programming
  • Experience in interacting with the public in small and large groups

Knowledge

  • Familiar with local community, services, and cultures in Lunenburg County
  • Strong knowledge of local resources, organizations, and supports to assist new community members with settling in the local community

Certification:

  • Valid NS Driver's License
  • First Aid/CPR (to be provided by employer).

Terms and Conditions of Employment:

Non-union, permanent, full time (35 hours per week)

Location: In-person, office shall be Town Hall (60 Pleasant Street, Bridgewater NS)

Town Hall is open to the public 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Work outside of regular office hours may be required to meet operational demands.

Annual Salary - $55,547 - $71,748 (Group 3)

This position is eligible for the Town's benefit package which includes medical/dental benefits, group insurances, a defined benefit pension plan* (*as of December 1, 2024), and a flexible work policy.
