Demands, duties, qualifications

The Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville is seeking Internists to provide on-call locum coverage on weekends or 5 to 7 days stretches or longer.

The general accountabilities of the on-call duties are to consult outpatients in an ambulatory setting and follow inpatients on the medical and intensive care units. The Internist will work closely with the Hospitalist for admissions and discharges.

Remuneration is in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The rate for a specialist locum is $1,335.00 for every 24-hour period worked. There is a meal rate of $52.44 per day and the provincial vehicle mileage rate. Clean family friendly hospital accommodations are provided.

This hospital provides services to a catchment area of approximately 20,000 people. It has 47 acute care beds and 42 long-term care beds which include two respite care beds and two palliative care beds. Services include anesthesia, chemotherapy, diabetes education, family practice, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ICU/Cardiac, internal medicine, laboratory, palliative care, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, respiratory therapy, ultrasonography and 24-hour emergency. Other services include nursing, nutritional, pharmacy, physiotherapy, social work and visiting specialty clinics.

The Town of Clarenville is near a national park, downhill and cross-country ski lodges, 2 golf courses, hunting and fishing opportunities, and cultural events. Clarenville has a stadium, swimming pool, theatre, soccer pitch, running track, several softball fields and playgrounds, hiking trails, and snowmobile trails.
