Job Summary

The Surgical Services Program of NL Health Services (Urban Zone) invites expressions of interest for the Surgical Oncologist position within the General Surgery division at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The candidate will join a team of 6 surgeons within the division of General Surgery, providing comprehensive care to patients of Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful applicant will be based out of the Health Science Centre but also hold credentials for St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, both based in St. John's, Newfoundland.

The full-time Surgical Oncologist position will have an equal divisional share of main operating room time, clinic time, and minor procedure time. Access to endoscopy time may be available but dedicated time is not guaranteed. Call expectations are distributed across the active divisional members.

The successful candidate must have a strong interest in breast and peritoneal disease management and stay abreast of the advances in Surgical oncology. The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing a strong academic career and will be expected to participate actively in the Division's academic, research, and education initiatives including teaching and supervision of undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees.

The successful candidate must have an MD or equivalent; have completed an accredited General Surgery training program; have advanced training in Surgical Oncology; have a strong research interest and/or an advanced degree; and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Opportunities for an academic appointment are possible for the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (or equivalent) in General Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Surgical oncology at an accredited institution
